On 13 October 2025, the Asan Institute for Policy Studies held an online roundtable with Ukraine’s New Europe Center to discuss democratic solidarity and strategic cooperation between Asia and Europe amid the evolving security landscape following Russia’s invasion. Participants included Sangmin Shim and Saemi Kim from the Asan Institute, Jung-hyun Cho from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Ethan Hee-Seok Shin from the Transitional Justice Working Group, Serhiy Solodkyy, Nataliya Butyrska and researchers from the New Europe Center, and Mykhailo Samus from the New Geopolitics Research Network.

The participants discussed the fundamental changes in the nature of warfare due to advanced technology, international support for the restoration of peace in Ukraine, the importance of solidarity among democratic nations, the security threat of strengthening North Korea-Russia cooperation, and holding Russia accountable under international law for its acts of aggression. They also exchanged views on the need to strengthen cooperation between research institutions, establish regular dialogue channels, deepen solidarity based on democratic values, and respond jointly to defend the rules-based international order.
