On Friday, March 4, the Asan Institute for Policy Studies held a closed Roundtable with Frank A. Rose, the Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance. The roundtable’s key topic concerned the deployment of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in South Korea. Technical issues as well as political controversies related to the operation of the missile defense system in Northeast Asia were highlighted and discussed, particularly vis-à-vis why China is so opposed to a potential THAAD deployment.
